Have I told you guys that we get an ice sculpture with our venue’s package? It’s actually an upgrade, grandfathered to us by Cescaphe, the new owners of our venue.
I’ve never thought about having an ice sculpture, but now that’s it’s A Thing That Is Happening, we have to choose one.
The venue has told us they can do whatever we want. Seriously. There isn’t even a catalog or anything, you just send them an image, and they make it.
When I told Bob the Builder about this bonus feature, he was intrigued by the “we can have anything we want” part. So, naturally he suggested something ridiculous. His suggestion is an ice sculpture of The Fonz. For those of you younger than 35, The Fonz is a character from the old TV show “Happy Days”. The Fonz was played by Henry Winkler.
Strangely, enough, when you google image search “ice sculpture of The Fonz”, it returns zero results. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
If we went in that direction, at least it would be unique. One-of-a-kind.
If you simply google “ice sculpture weddings”, you get about a million photos of all kinds of things. Mostly monograms or flowers, or strangely, two dolphins kissing seems to be one that repeats.
I guess weddings bring out the dolphin lovers in people.
I took my googling one step further and tried “ice sculpture weddings Philadelphia”, and here is where I hit the motherload, peeps.
Most popular seems to be the iconic Love Statue, which is in Philadelphia at, (where else?), Love Park.
Also notable are ice sculptures of popular sports teams:
Yet, despite the fact that Philadelphians LOVE Rocky, I cannot find any homages to Sly Stallone in ice form. This is shocking to me. Seriously? No one has every done a Rocky ice sculpture for their wedding? This seems highly unlikely. If anyone out there has done this, or has a photo of one, please email it to me. I know it MUST exist.
Initially, I was going to scrap the whole ice sculpture thing, because I think they can be really tacky. Proving my point:
This is a likeness of the groom. Carved in ice. It was used to keep the ice cream cool. I just can’t, you guys. I don’t even know what’s happening.
But in our case, the ice sculpture is used to chill the raw bar. So, we definitely want the raw bar, so we definitely need an ice sculpture.
What should we pick?
I’ll tell you what we picked after the wedding. So, you only have to wait 13 days!
Oh holy shit.
