Periscope Q & A This Wednesday!

PEEPS! Have you experienced Periscope yet?

No?

Well, don’t feel badly about it…this live video streaming app isn’t even a month old.

Screen Shot 2015-07-19 at 10.05.25 PM

No. Not THIS Periscope.

FOR ONCE I am cool and know about something early-ish! #winning

Periscope is a live streaming app, owned by Twitter, that allows you to share and watch live video broadcasts from your iPhone or Android device. It is a ‘visual pulse of what’s happening right now‘. It lets you ‘discover the world through someone else’s eyes‘. You can watch others’ videos, and you can broadcast your own!

In the past week, I’ve watched a Disneyland parade, a first person view of someone running a 5K in England, and I “helped” a songwriter in Texas write lyrics. I also watched someone try to eat ramen, but that was just weird. (Don’t ‘scope your meals, you guys. No one looks good whilst eating.)

As much as I enjoy watching everyone else’s live streams, I am so excited to broadcast – I get so many reader emails and I wish I had more time to answer them all – and now I can, LIVE!  Also, who am I kidding…I love to talk, especially about weddings!

I’ll be LIVE on Periscope this Wednesday, July 22nd 4:00PM PST to chat about All Things Wedding and answer all your questions! Seriously, ask me anything!

Feel free to leave a question in the comments here too – and then tune in on Wednesday for my A to your Q. (Stolen with love from M. Forleo!) You can also type in your question live, so don’t be shy!

Here’s how to “‘scope”, as the kids say:

1. Download the app here for iPhone or here for Android. Like Instagram, this is an app only.

2. Sign up with your Twitter account or your phone number. Easy peasy.

3. Add some peeps! (Add me: @reneedalo)

4. Watch others live streams, or broadcast yourself

(For more robust directions, check out this Periscope Tutorial.)

So, let me hear from you – who is already using and loving Periscope like me? And who will be joining me for my Q & A this Wednesday? I may or may not be rocking a new haircut. You’ll have to tune in and see!!!!!!

Marsala – Pantone’s Color of the Year 2015!

*This post contains affiliate links. If you click through a make a purchase, a tiny percent of that purchase goes to help keep this blog running. So, thanks! I never recommend anything I don’t love and use. For reals.*

Last week, Pantone announced their Color of the Year for 2015, Marsala, and it’s a beaut!

marsala pantone color of the year 2015Marsala is a beautiful earthy red. I’m a little obsessed with it. I’ve heard it said that some think it’s too much of a specifically autumn color, but I disagree. I think it pairs well with aqua for a summer wedding, or shades of pink and purple for a spring wedding!

Wedding Inspiration: The Great Gatsby

This week, our merry band of wedding planners has looked to The Great Gatsby for our inspiration. Did y’all read The Great Gatsby in school? Well, just in case you haven’t…

(from Amazon): The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. This exemplary novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,” it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

Maybe you’re more familiar with this version?

If so, I would encourage you to read the source material. It’s truly spectacular. As is the STYLE!

Here’s my inspiration board, please click thru to my Pinterest for sources:

Confession: I Still Haven’t Finished Our Wedding Thank You Cards

*This post contains affiliate links. If you click through and make a purchase, a very small percentage of your purchase will help support this blog. I never recommend anything I don’t love and use.*

Ok.

Confession time.

Bob the Builder and I have been married for 247 days. I have only written and mailed 23 thank you cards. I have not finished our wedding thank you cards.  I am the worst bride in the world.

*hangs head in shame*

How did I get here? Well, of course, there’s a story!

As soon as we got home after our wedding, I started looking for the perfect thank you card. I searched all the usual online suspects, and eventually came across this lil beaut, from Wedding Paper Divas.

Inspiration: Farm-to-Table Wedding

Back in March, I was fortunate enough to attend Alison Howard’s REFINE Workshop for wedding planners. I had a wonderful time, learned more than my brain could process in two days, and made some fantastic new friends – wedding planners from all over the country! We have kept in touch, via the magic of Facebook, and it’s been fantastic. Lindsay had the genius idea of an inspiration Board Challenge. So, here we are. A lovely group of female entrepreneurs supporting, challenging, and sharing with one another. It’s a little bit of magic, I think.

For the next few weeks, I’m going to be featuring a variety of inspiration boards created by our merry band of wedding planners. I am so excited to share this new feature with y’all, and for you to all get to know these ladies that I love! If they are in your area, check them out!

Continuing in our new Wedding Inspiration Series, this week our theme is Farm to Table!

Definition: (courtesy of about.com) Farm-to-table is a phrase that can mean different things to different people. At its heart, however, farm-to-table means that the food on the table came directly from a specific farm. Sometimes this means the table is actually at the farm and cooks or chefs prepare and serve the food at the farm (even in the field). Other times the use of farm-to-table emphasizes a direct relationship between a farm and a restaurant or store. It can also refer more loosely to farmers markets, CSAs, and other venues where people can buy food directly from growers. Anyone using the phrase farm-to-table should be able to name the specific farm(s) from which they are sourcing.

What does this mean for wedding inspiration? This wedding theme is for all the foodies out there! While it doesn’t technically need to have a farm as it’s venue, this theme is all about using what is naturally existing in the space. Less to buy, less to waste, and most of all, knowing from where all your materials (not just the food) are sourced.

Here’s my inspiration board. Click through to my matching Pinterest board for photo sources, and to get a better look at that awesome carrot & tulip centerpiece:

Inspiration: Steampunk Wedding

Back in March, I was fortunate enough to attend Alison Howard’s REFINE Workshop for wedding planners. I had a wonderful time, learned more than my brain could process in two days, and made some fantastic new friends – wedding planners from all over the country! We have kept in touch, via the magic of Facebook, and it’s been fantastic. A few days ago, Lindsay Bishop had the genius idea of an inspiration Board Challenge.

This week, our chosen theme was Steampunk. We all agreed that this one was out of our collective comfort zones! This one required research. Seriously.

What is Steampunk? (I heard you asking me through the inter webs). Well, The Steampunk Bride describes is thusly:

“In three short words, steampunk is Victorian Science Fiction. Here “Victorian” is not meant to indicate a specific culture, but rather references a time period and an aesthetic: the industrialized 19th century. Historically, this period saw the development of many key aspects of the modern world (mechanized manufacturing, extensive urbanization, telecommunications, office life and mass-transit), and steampunk uses this existing technology and structure to imagine an even more advanced 19th century, often complete with Victorian-inspired wonders like steam-powered aircraft and mechanical computers.”

So. Yeah. It’s like time travel in both directions. :-)

How To Have Kids at Your Wedding Without Losing Your Mind

Kids at your wedding

Bob the Builder and I had many children at our wedding. In fact, we had thirteen children under the age of thirteen, two of whom were in our wedding party. And, we did not lose our minds. Here’s how you can have kids at your wedding without losing your mind. Seriously.

1. Set realistic expectations for yourself and for the children. This is the big one, you guys. The children are, well…CHILDREN. And you cannot expect them to sit like quiet little angels all day long. It’s best to prepare yourself way ahead of time that you might hear some crying or whining or flat out yelling during your ceremony. That’s just reality. Even with the most attentive parents, children are gonna do what they’re gonna do. Even if their parents quickly take them out of the room, you will still hear them. Just be ok with it. Or, don’t invite children to your wedding. These are your choices.

Here’s our totally true story. Our flower girl, Lulu B, is my favorite little girl on the planet, and she also happens to be the daughter of one of my best friends on the planet, who was also a bridesmaid.

5 Things NOT to Do Now that You’re Engaged

5NOTto do

I generally don’t like to write negative posts, but since we’ve already talked about 5 Things TO DO Now That You’re Engaged, I thought it was only fair to explore the flip side. So, here we go! Here’s what NOT to do right after you become engaged.

1. DO NOT Overshare on Social Media.

I know I told you to update your social media. But let’s all acknowledge that past the first step of changing your relationship status, there is a lot of room for error. In general, I think it’s a mistake to share every single detail of your wedding on social media. (I know this sounds insane coming from me, because, well, I’m a Blogger…) The reason for this is two-fold. First of all, I doubt your entire Facebook friend list cares about the color of your flowers or the fact that your hands hurt from stuffing 200 invitation envelopes. Even those who love you the most will tire of daily wedding updates. And secondly, I doubt you have invited all your friends to your Big Day. I have over 700 Facebook friends, and I think if I did the math (and I try to never ever do math) I was able to invite less than 10% of them to our wedding. So, it’s rude to discuss a party with those who aren’t invited. End of story.

If you really feel the need to share all the details, join the online communities at Weddingbee or The Knot. Or, start your own blog. :-)

And as far as posting a photo of your ring, I think that’s a personal preference. I didn’t. For me, our engagement wasn’t so much about the ring that I wanted to acknowledge it on Facebook in that way. But many gals do. It’s up to you. No judgement.

2. DO NOT Verbally Promise Things to Anyone about ANYTHING

Top 5 Things to Do Now That You’re Engaged!

Hey Peeps,

Raise your hand if you got engaged on Friday! Did you know that Huff Post estimates that 6 MILLION couples became engaged on Valentine’s Day. Whew! That’s A LOT of proposals, you guys.

In honor of those 6 million happy couples, I’m here to share with you my Top 5 Things to Do Now That You’re Engaged!

5 things engaged1. Tell Your Peeps.

I know you’re thinking, “Duh, yeah, of course!”. And yes, duh. But, let’s talk about HOW you are telling your peeps. I called my Dad basically right after Bob the Builder proposed. And then called my four bridesmaids. Then I realized it was after midnight on the East Coast and had to wait until the morning to call my Mom, and Bob the Builders’ family. So, I called them in the morning. Then I got tired and lazy and decided just to change my Facebook status. I didn’t realize it then, but some of my friends were miffed that they had to hear about it on Facebook and not from me directly. So, consider your peeps. And consider that getting engaged is a big huge life thing, and it (probably) only happens once, and pick up the phone and call your nearest and dearest. Or go see them in person. Don’t just rely on the Book of Face. Which brings me to…

Guest Post: Budget Fairy Tale’s 5 Reasons To Consider a Disney Wedding or Honeymoon

Hi, I’m Mindy from Budget Fairy Tale & Inspired By Dis! Renee and I met on the internet when she helped me reach my goal of attending Camp Mighty, and now I consider her one of my closest friends. The Internet is magic, people. Today I’m excited to be guest posting on That Bride’s Got Moxie while Renee is off enjoying her honeymoon (color me jealous)!  I’m expecting a little bottle of Jamaican Rum as a thank you gift.

Speaking of honeymoons, one subject that I write about a lot on my blog is Disney weddings and honeymoons. I know for a lot of adults, the word Disney conjures up images of never ending queues and overpriced stuffed animals. But for some adults, it reminds of them of carefree childhood vacations and happily ever after. I am one of those adults, and I’m not alone. Every year, thousands of couples either get married, honeymoon, or both, at a Disney Resort. I married my husband at The Disneyland Hotel in 2012 and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing about our wonderful wedding day. Today I’m sharing a little bit of that Disney magic with the That Bride’s Got Moxie readers. Here are my 5 reasons you should consider a Disney wedding or honeymoon.
