Bob the Builder and I have been married for 247 days. I have only written and mailed 23 thank you cards. I have not finished our wedding thank you cards. I am the worst bride in the world.
*hangs head in shame*
How did I get here? Well, of course, there’s a story!
As soon as we got home after our wedding, I started looking for the perfect thank you card. I searched all the usual online suspects, and eventually came across this lil beaut, from Wedding Paper Divas.
There are so many reasons this thank you is perfect for us. I wanted to use as many wedding photos as possible, because I love our photographers and I knew (even before I saw them) that they would be worth sharing. So, the four photo format is amazing for that. Also, I was able to customize the font to Carolyna Pro Black (which for some reason is called Lady Kate Bold on WPD), so it matches the rest of our wedding stationary. And, the “thanks for the laughter and love” wording is just so spot on. Our wedding was full of love, and SO full of laughter. It is the perfect sentiment to send to our fabulous guests. Oh, and lastly: gold glitter. (Duh.)
So, I waited to receive all our entire wedding portfolio from Marisa & John at Redfield Photo before I placed my order. They were pretty speedy in sending us our photos, but then it took me forever to narrow the pool down to The Best Four. Or, the four that made the most sense for the card.
By early December, I had our thank you cards in hand. Horray! In between decorating for Christmas and online shopping, I dutifully got started on our thank you cards. Obviously, I had a spread sheet prepared, because, well, I’m me.
On the Wednesday before Christmas, I was sitting on the couch enjoying a mug of hot cocoa and working on thank you cards. I was all set up – the good pen, the spreadsheet, and 150 brand new thank you cards – all laid out before me. I had even pre-addressed the envelopes and stamped them! You guys, I was on fire! I was going to bust out at least half of these babies in one sitting!
Have I mentioned we have two dogs?
Those are my scruffy little muppets. They are full of love, spunk, and sass. They are especially adept at defending the house against mailmen, random pedestrians, a strong wind, or the flutter of a hummingbird. All of these things send them into a frenzy of jumping, running and barking. They could both be dead tired and snoring one minute, and they next they are charging out of the doggie door, barking at the top of their lungs. It can startle a person.
Which is exactly what went down. What else went down? My entire cup of hot cocoa. I jumped up so suddenly, I knocked into the coffee table with my foot. Which caused the hot cocoa to spill all over the table and my laptop. And the pre-addressed stamped envelopes. AND THE THANK YOU CARDS.
I didn’t think to take a photo of the carnage, because my only impulse was just to burst into tears. It looked sort of like this, but more dramatic.
Because life is funny…Bob the Builder arrived home a few minutes later. He found his wife of two months just like this:
That’s not even a slight exaggeration. He ran from the front door to where I had thrown myself on the floor. I am positive he was expecting horrible news, like a death in the family or something.
Then he noticed the coffee table.
And he said, “Oh shit. That’s awful. Yes. Cry all you want. That sucks.” And he went and got a dishtowel to sop up the (now) cold hot chocolate.
This is why I married him, you guys. He is awesome.
Here’s all I have to commemorate the ocassion:
See? Can you see the hot cocoa? This photo makes me so sad. SO SAD, you guys.
After Bob the Builder sopped up the mess, he gathered up anything that could be salvaged and put them on the backyard patio table to “dry”. What remained were five un-soiled cards.
This was December.
I know I need to get myself over to Wedding Paper Divas and order new cards and just sit down and do it. I have been procrastinating for many, many months now. Maybe getting this out in the open will propel me into action.
To be fair, I have been busy this year, staring a new business and all. But still, that is NO excuse. I could have busted out these cards during any of my obsessive marathons of The Mindy Project. (Side note: You should all be watching The Mindy Project. It’s the funniest show on TV. The End.)
Ok. Here I go.
Off to Thank You Card Land.
I’ll report back soon.
Anyone else drop the ball on their thank you cards? Please tell me I am not all alone here!
